Floor Preparation

We have recently heavily invested into our preparation equipment, allowing us to undertake large projects without the need for outsourcing.

Surface preparation is the process of removing all contaminants on the floor to ensure the substrate is keyed prior to the resin application. The floor preparation includes removal of existing resin coatings, dirt/grime and concrete latency. During the floor preparation process, we will also address any concerns over oil contamination within the substrate.

The most popular techniques include diamond grinding and planing/scabbling

For a successful installation, floor preparation is key. The correct floor preparation will remove dust, contaminants and any existing coatings to ensure a sound key for the subsequent installation.

Various types of floor preparation are available from simple hand held diamond grinders through to shotblasting machines. At Signature Resin Floors Ltd, we have heavily invested in this area to ensure we can offer the best solutions for our clients.

In the past, large scale floor areas were prepared by outsourcing to a shotblasting company but we felt this caused a slight dilution of our control on projects. Similarly many clients do not like the appearance of a shotblasted floor and the tram line effect it can leave behind, especially when applying a resin coating where there is a high chance these lines will mirror through the finish. To combat this, we invested in triple headed planetary grinders with associated 3 motor vacuums to minimise any dust.

These machines allow us to prepare floors at a faster pace leading to less downtime for clients and because of the design of the machines they leave no marks in the concrete ensuring a much smoother finish for the resin coating application. The technology behind the machines allows for a variety of finishes to be achieved by using various adaptor plates dependent on the resin installation and condition of the original substrate.
